Information for Parents and Guardians

 

As a student's parent or guardian, you are much more than just transportation to and from class. You are an integral part of our training program.

 

Advancement in the art of karate-do requires taking the lessons taught in the dojo -- seriousness and focus, courtesy, taking initiative, accepting responsibility -- and applying them in everyday life.

 

Parents are expected to be our eyes and ears on our students outside the dojo. Many parents make us aware of report card grades in academics and citizenships, for example. At the minimum, we ask parents to make sure the specific examples we teach in the dojo are being done at home:

 

• Saying "please" and "thank you"
• Saying "good morning" and "good night"
• Cleaning own room and making own bed
• Choosing (at least) one household task and practice doing it without being asked

 

Of course, you will be the student's primary example!
